![]() When building client centric Web applications almost everything becomes an API and since I prefer to design my APIs up front before there is any Application UI to test it, some sort of testing tool is required. I use WebSurge for all my API testing to test individual URLs interactively. WebSurge and Meįor me personally I've been using WebSurge in just about any Web project I've created in the last year and it's been especially useful in API projects. The easiest way to install West Wind WebSurge is through Chocolatey: choco install westwindwebsurgeīut you can also download the installer directly from the download link and then run the embedded installer exe. ![]() Or take a peak at the functionality available in this YouTube walk-through video: You can download and find out more about West Wind WebSurge from these links: So, today I'm happy to announce that I've released version 1.0 of West Wind WebSurge after a lengthy beta period. Even starting from scratch you should be able to start running tests in a couple of minutes. ![]() The main goal of the front end piece is to make it super quick and easy to capture or create URLs for tests, store and save them so that you can easily create repeatable tests, that you will actually run on a regular basis. WebSurge stores the test information in plain text files that can be shared easily in projects or source code repositories and can be easily generated by tools. The end result of this was West Wind WebSurge which is a Windows based application that makes it very easy to enter and capture URLs and then play them back either individually for functionality testing of individual URLs or under heavy load for performing stress testing. What started out as a requirement on a client project, quickly morphed into a custom load testing library and then eventually into a product that combines the load engine with an easy to use UI to make it easy to create the URLs and run the tests. I wanted an interactive tool that makes it easy to set up and test URLs either individually or under load. I created this tool out of a sense of frustration with existing stress testing tools that are either wickedly expensive, or a pain in the butt to use. About a year ago I introduced an easy to use URL and load testing tool called West Wind WebSurge.

However, consumers should be aware that since leaving in 2015, Dotcom has leveled serious accusations against MEGA for possible ties with the New Zealand and Chinese governments. This is good for tech-savvy users who want to audit the technology for security issues. The downloadable client is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, while its entire source code was released on Github. MEGA does not impose any limitations on individual file size, and allows restoration of previous versions of corrupted files using built-in file versioning technology. Files can also be password-protected to add another layer of security. While its zero-knowledge encryption technology makes collaboration a bit difficult, individual files can still be shared using a dedicated encryption key required to unlock them. ![]() It offers end-to-end encryption and a generous 20GB of storage via its free plan, with absolutely no throttling. MEGA.nz (opens in new tab) is a very popular, New Zealand-based cloud storage company, founded in 2013 by Kim Dotcom, a rather controversial figure in the online world. Limited compatibility with third-party apps Read our full Dropbox review (opens in new tab) Security is impressive without being exceptional, with all files encrypted at rest and in transit, but there is no end-to-end encryption, though accounts can also be secured with 2FA. We think however that you could do much worse than Dropbox for your cloud storage solution This isn’t a major issue, but differentiates the platform from competitors like IDrive. Dropbox only stores what you transfer to its folder on your device. One limitation however is that you can’t back up external or network drives to your account. There are also desktop and mobile apps for the usual suspects, as well as less well-supported platforms like Linux and even Kindle. ![]() The file sharing leader provides several features that make it easy to share large files with others, whether they use Dropbox or not. You can also use the Dropbox Paper collaboration tool, allowing for seamless file sharing between users, and automatic syncing of photos from the desktop app.Īn extra free feature is the File Requests tool, which allows you to request users upload directly to your Dropbox account, and to edit files without downloading them while working on the web client version. ![]() The free option offers 2GB of storage, but provides ways to increase space by completing its starting guide (250MB), referring others to Dropbox (500MB per referral, up to 16GB), and contributing to its community forum (1GB). Dropbox (opens in new tab) is a fantastic choice for free, personal cloud storage. ![]() Some items will give you clues as to where to go next and others will simply unlock more banter between you and young Lissie (which is required for a trophy). You can ignore the calls of Alice and just go for a walk around the small village, taking pictures of the gorgeous landscapes and vistas, but she won’t be happy if you do!Īs an adventure game, it’s up to you, Edward, to look at everything you find such as posters, writing, pictures, and objects. The game itself is split into six chapters, each one is effectively a day upon the island, with each day offering you a new goal or objective to investigate. She’s always there to offer some sort of witty banter, clues, advice, or suggestions on what to do next. Seeing as Drauen is heavily focused on its narrative in order to push the story forward, you’ll be gently ‘pushed’ in the right direction via your perky companion, Alice. So, come with me as I once again row down the fjord towards the small and private town of Graavik in hopes of being reunited with my sister once more… The console version of this incredible adventure contains a few additional bonuses over the PC version, bonuses which I’ll get into later on as they are both very welcome additions to the experience. ![]() ![]() This week I’ve been taking a look at this gorgeous thriller on the PS4 Pro, playing the experience how the developers intended it to be – an experience which was just as mesmerising and haunting as the first time I played it.Ĭoming from Red Thread Games, the studio behind the brilliant Dreamfall Chapters (which I also highly recommend to adventure game fans), Draugen is a game which will remain in your thoughts long after you’ve reached the end credits. However, due to the age of my hardware, the experience wasn’t perfect as I personally suffered from a few technical issues, pulling me out of the immersion at points and mildly affecting my enjoyment. Not too long ago I reviewed Draugen on Steam ( HERE), an interactive narrative-heavy adventure game which perfectly sucks you into the beautiful visuals and relaxing atmosphere of the isolated town of Graavik in Norway. ![]() ![]() Grey Coat, the leader of the Greenshield’s Willowvale Chapter, is the second character you’ll meet, and you will be immediately enraptured by his irony and wit, especially as you meet more and more of the odd folks who round out the game’s cast. The plot and characters in these types of games never seem to be the priority, but here, they are just as essential as the gameplay. Together, there is intrigue, mystery, and a lot of emotion as the plot unravels. But there is a deeper underlying plot as well involving Wake and dreams he keeps having of his father, who he left to begin this adventure. It’s a classic fantasy plot, and it reminds me of a favorite series of mine, Wildwood by Colin Meloy. But he gets lost and finds himself suddenly in a magical world, the Deep Woods, where he must reunite with his friend, befriend the Spritelings, and help the Order of the Greenshield prevent The Never from taking over the Deep Woods and the outer world. Wake is getting ready to meet his best friend Kirby in the woods for a major, serious, multi-day operation with no likely return. Its 2D drawings in a 3D world are as enchanting as the Deep Woods it takes place in with an emotional story and a take on the Pikmin franchise’s little helpers I may actually enjoy even more. ![]() The Wild at Heart is an adventure game with puzzle elements developed by Moonlight Kids and published by Humble Games.
